Overview

Refrig Loads computes the refrigeration load for a cold-storage box the way the handbooks do it (transmission through walls, roof, and floor, door infiltration, product pull-down, and people, lights, motors, fans, and defrost), then iterates the equipment heat to convergence instead of hiding it in a flat allowance. The calculated tons publish straight into the rest of the refrigeration suite, so pipe sizing, cycle analysis, and annual energy start from the same number.

Key features

• DOE walk-in efficiency (AWEF): the federal minimum from 10 CFR 431.306 for the box class, checked against a rated figure, with the shortfall or margin stated plainly rather than left for the reader to look up
• Solar gain computed from the site rather than allowed for: roof and wall sun effect follow latitude, orientation and surface finish, replacing the flat 15 °F roof allowance. Pick a weather station and the calculation switches from a typed allowance to a computed one that names the latitude it used
• Transmission loads with recommended insulation R-values auto-suggested by box temperature
• Infiltration two ways: quick air-change table or detailed door openings (the EnergyPlus walk-in method)
• Product pull-down staged through sensible, latent, and subcooling, with a 60+ commodity database built in
• Internal gains and equipment: people, lighting, motors, evaporator fans, and defrost
• Monthly load profile from an EPW weather file, with design conditions from the ASHRAE station database
• Results chain into System Sizer’s cycle and annual-energy tools automatically

How to use it

   Click Refrig Loads on the RIME ribbon (Refrigeration panel).

   Work through the cards: Location, Box, Infiltration, Product, and Internal.

   Pick the commodity from the database or override its properties with exact data.

   Click Calculate, review the load breakdown and monthly profile, then print the HTML report.
